Here are the heroes wielding great bows, who in battle are compeers of Bhima and Arjuna: Yuyudhana (Satyaki) and Virata, and the maharatha (great chariot-rider) Drupada;
Detailed Commentary
1.4 -- 1.6 Explanation: 'Atra Shura Maheshvasa Bhimarjunasama Yudhī' — Those who wield the bow are 'Maheshvasa' (great bowmen). This indicates that immense strength is required to string and draw a great bow. Such warriors are as powerful and skilled as Bhima and Arjuna. 'Yuyudhanah' — Yuyudhana (Satyaki) had learned Shastra Vidya (the science of weaponry) from Arjuna. Therefore, he sided with Arjuna instead of Duryodhana's Narayani Sena. Duryodhana first mentions Yuyudhana's name to incite Dveshabhava (ill-will) towards Dronacharya. 'Viratascha' — King Virata stands against us, from when our warrior Susharma was humiliated and we (the Kauravas) had to flee the battle. Duryodhana shows cunning by naming King Virata first so that Dronacharya may not perceive his trickery. 'Drupadascha Maharathah' — You (Dronacharya) had reminded Drupada of your old friendship, but he insulted you. He is now ready to fight against you. 'Dhrishtaketuh' — This Dhrishtaketu stands on the side of Krishna, who killed his father Shishupala. 'Chekitanah' — The Yadava army is on our side, yet Chekitana is with the Pandavas.
