Bhagavad Gita Chapter 10, Verse 18

English Translation

O Janardana, narrate to me again [In addition to what has been said in the seventh and ninth chapters.] Your onw yoga and (divine) manifestations elaborately. For, while hearing (Your) nectar-like (words), there is no satiety in me.

Detailed Commentary

10.18. Commentary -- In the seventh and ninth chapters, the Lord spoke extensively on the subject of *Jnana-Vijnana* (knowledge and realization). Yet, Arjuna was not fully satisfied, and so, in the tenth chapter, the Lord Himself began to speak further. He said, "Listen again to My supreme utterance." Upon hearing this, Arjuna paid special attention to the Lord's grace and prayed to Him to speak again. Arjuna said, "Please describe Your *Yoga* and *Vibhutis* (divine manifestations) in detail once more; for my mind finds no satiety in hearing Your ambrosial words. I feel like listening endlessly." Upon hearing the Lord's *Vibhutis*, Arjuna felt that knowing them would create a special attraction towards the Lord and effortlessly establish firm *Bhakti* (devotion) in Him. For this reason, Arjuna prays for a detailed explanation once more. Arjuna’s understanding was that knowing these *Vibhutis* felt very simple because he would not have to undertake any new task. Wherever there is a special quality, one simply has to recognize it as belonging to the Lord. This would cause his mind to constantly dwell on the Lord, leading to unwavering *Bhakti* in Him and making the path to his liberation (*Kalyana*) easier. Just as when someone sits down to eat and finds a dish particularly pleasing, they repeatedly ask for that same item. However, there are two limitations: that item might be limited, or one cannot eat too much due to a full stomach. But there is no end to the Lord's *Vibhutis*, nor to Arjuna's eagerness to listen. There is no limit to the ambrosial words heard through the ears, nor is there satiety in listening to them. Therefore, Arjuna prays to the Lord to keep narrating such ambrosial words. Connection -- Upon hearing Arjuna’s prayer, the Lord now begins to describe His *Vibhutis* and *Yoga* starting from the next verse.
