Transliteration
daṃṣṭrākarālāni ca te mukhāni dṛṣṭvaiva kālānalasannibhāni . diśo na jāne na labhe ca śarma prasīda deveśa jagannivāsa ||11-25||
English Translation
Having merely seen Your mouths made terrible with (their) teeth and resembling the fire of Dissolution, I have lost the sense of direction and find no comfort. Be gracious, O Lord of gods, O Abode of the Universe.
Detailed Commentary
Commentary on 11.25: Regarding "'*Daṁṣṭrākarālāni ca te mukhāni dṛṣṭvaiva kālānalasannibhāni*'": The fire that consumes the three worlds (*triloka*) at the time of the great dissolution (*Mahāpralaya*) is called *Kālāgni*. Your faces are like that *Kālāgni*, formidable due to terrifying fangs. Seeing them evokes great fear, and it is very difficult to stand before them. Regarding "'*Diśo na jāne na labhe ca śarma*'": Seeing these formidable faces, I lose knowledge of directions. This means that directions are known by the rising and setting of the sun. But that sun is within Your eyes. All around is only light (11.12), which has neither rising nor setting. Therefore, I do not know the directions, and due to fear, I cannot find happiness or peace. Regarding "'*Prasīda Deveśa Jagannivāsa*'": You are the Lord of the *Devas* (deities) and reside in the universe (*jagat*). In fear, people will call out only to You. Who else but You will listen? Therefore, calling out to You, I say: O *Deveśa* (Lord of Devas)! O *Jagannivāsa* (Abode of the Universe)! Be pleased. Seeing the formidable form of Bhagavān, Arjuna felt that Bhagavān was angry. Therefore, a terrified Arjuna is praying to Bhagavān. Context: Now, in the next two verses, Arjuna describes the entry of the principal warriors into the *Virāṭ Rūpa* (Universal Form).
