English Translation

I want to see You just as before, wearing a crown, wielding a mace, and holding a disc in hand. O You with thousand arms, O You of Cosmic form, appear with that very form with four hands.

Detailed Commentary

**11.46** Explanation — "Kiriṭinaṁ Gadinaṁ Cakrahastamicchāmi Tvāṁ Draṣṭumahaṁ Tathaiva" — that very form I wish to see, in which You wear a divine crown on Your head and hold a mace and a discus in Your hands. The meaning of 'tathaiva' is that when I said "Draṣṭumicchāmi Te Rūpam" (**11.3**), You then revealed the Virāṭ Rūpa (Cosmic Form). Now, why should I leave my wish unfulfilled? The gentle Chaturbhuja Rūpa (four-armed form) that I witnessed within Your Virāṭ Rūpa, that very form I now wish to see – "Icchāmi Tvāṁ Draṣṭumahaṁ Tathaiva." "Tenaiva Rūpeṇa Chaturbhujena Sahasrabāho Bhava Viśvamūrte" — Arjuna here uses the word 'eva' to negate the Chaturbhuja Viṣṇu Rūpa (four-armed Viṣṇu form) that was seen within the Virāṭ Rūpa in verses fifteen and seventeen. Its implication is that the words "tena chaturbhujena rūpeṇa" are indeed meant to indicate the four-armed form, while the word 'eva' serves to negate 'not with the Virāṭ Rūpa'. 'Bhava' (be, become) – this is a prayer. The import of 'tadeva' in the first verse, and 'tathaiva' and 'tenaiva' here, is that Arjuna was greatly frightened by the Viśvarūpa. That is why he repeatedly urges the Lord, "I wish to see only Your Viṣṇu Rūpa; not the Viśvarūpa along with the Viṣṇu Rūpa." Therefore, "Please manifest only in the Chaturbhuja Rūpa." From the address 'Sahasrabāho' (O Lord of a thousand arms), it is understood: "O Lord of a thousand arms! Please become one with four arms." And from the address 'Viśvamūrte' (O Lord of many forms), it is understood: "O Lord of many forms! Please become one with a single form." The implication is that You should withdraw the Viśva Rūpa and assume the Chaturbhuja Viṣṇu Rūpa. **Context** — In the thirty-first verse, Arjuna asked, "Who are You, O fearful form?" Then the Lord replied, "I am Kāla (Time), and I have come forth to destroy all." Hearing this and seeing the formidable form, Arjuna felt that the Lord was in a state of anger. That is why Arjuna repeatedly prays to the Lord to be pleased. To dispel this feeling of his, the Lord says —
