Detailed Commentary

13.19. Commentary: "Thus, the Kshetra, as also Jnana and Jneya, have been briefly declared." That which has been described in the fifth and sixth verses of this chapter is the Kshetra. The aggregate of means (sādhanas) described from the seventh to the eleventh verse is Jnana, and that which has been described from the twelfth to the seventeenth verse is the Jneya. Thus, I have briefly described the Kshetra, Jnana, and Jneya. "My devotee, knowing this, attains My state of being." My devotee, knowing the Kshetra, the Jnana which is the aggregate of means, and the Jneya-Tattva (Paramatma) in their true essence, attains My state of being. Upon truly knowing the Kshetra, one becomes detached from the Kshetra. By truly understanding and adopting Jnana, that is, the aggregate of means, ego-identification with the body (individuality) is eradicated. Upon truly knowing the Jneya-Tattva, one attains it, which means one experiences identity with the Paramatma-Tattva. Connection: The subsequent section begins with the aim of elaborating upon the Kshetra and Kshetrajña, which were briefly described in the first and second verses of this very chapter.
