॥ श्लोक ॥

Transliteration

mayādhyakṣeṇa prakṛtiḥ sūyate sacarācaram . hetunānena kaunteya jagadviparivartate ||9-10||

English Translation

Under Me as the supervisor, the Prakrti produces (the world) of the moving and the non-moving things. Owing to this reason, O son of Kunti, the world revolves.

Detailed Commentary

9.10 Explanation: Prakriti, operating under My supervision, creates the material manifestation comprising moving and non-moving, inert and conscious beings. Just as various machines perform many functions, but their power comes from electricity, similarly, everything that occurs in this world happens through Prakriti by the inspiration of Bhagavan. Without the inspiration of Bhagavan, Prakriti can do nothing. Paramatma creates the world through Prakriti, and these transformations occur when beings maintain their identification with Prakriti. When beings do not connect themselves with Bhagavan and instead associate themselves with Prakriti, then they remain trapped in the cycle of birth and death (janma-mrityu). The origin and sustenance of all beings come from Prakriti, but their existence and animating principle (satta-sphurti) are received from Paramatma. All actions occur in the light of Paramatma, yet their fundamental nature (swaroop) remains unchangeable (aparivartaneeya). If beings consider their true nature (swaroop) to be one with Paramatma, then true love will manifest. Context: A description of those who are not absorbed in Paramatma and who follow an adverse path is provided in the subsequent verses.
