विभूति योग
॥ श्लोक ॥
आहुस्त्वामृषयः सर्वे देवर्षिर्नारदस्तथा | असितो देवलो व्यासः स्वयं चैव ब्रवीषि मे ||१०-१३||
Transliteration
āhustvāmṛṣayaḥ sarve devarṣirnāradastathā . asito devalo vyāsaḥ svayaṃ caiva bravīṣi me ||10-13||
English Translation
Arjuna said You are the supreme Brahman, the supreme Light, the supreme Sanctifier. All the sages as also the divine sage Narada, Asita, Devala and Vyasa [Although Narada and the other sages are already mentioned by the words 'all the sages', still they are named separately because of their eminence. Asita is the father of Devala.] call You the eternal divine Person, the Primal God, the Birthless, the Omnipresent; and You Yourself verily tell me (so).
Detailed Commentary
10.13. Arjuna, in his eulogy of the Lord, says: 'Paraṁ Brahma, Paraṁ Dhāma, Pavitraṁ Paramaṁ Bhavān' (You are the Supreme Brahman, the Supreme Abode, the Supreme Purifier). The Paraṁ Brahman which You have described (Gita 8.3) is You Yourself. The Paraṁ Dhāma (Supreme Abode), in which the entire universe rests, is also You (Gita 9.18). That which is called the Holiest of the holy, is also You. 'Puruṣaṁ Śāśvataṁ Divyam Ādidevam Ajaṁ Vibhum... Svayaṁ Caiva Bravīṣi Me' (You are the eternal, divine Puruṣa, the primeval Deity, the unborn, the all-pervading... and You Yourself have told me so). Rishis, Devarṣi Nārada, Asita Devala Rishi, and Maharṣi Vyāsa have called You eternal (Śāśvata), divine Puruṣa, Ādideva, unborn (Aja), and all-pervading (Vibhu). You Yourself have told me, in these terms: as the Ātman, 'Śāśvata' (eternal) (Gita 2.20); as the Saguṇa-Nirākāra (with attributes, without form) 'Divya Puruṣa' (divine being) (Gita 8.10); as 'Ādideva' (the primeval deity) among Devas and Maharṣis (Gita 10.2); as 'Aja' (unborn), for the foolish do not know Me (Gita 7.25) while the wise know Me as unborn (Gita 10.3); and as 'Vibhu' (all-pervading), being present everywhere in My unmanifest form (Gita 9.4).
