Detailed Commentary

11.9 Explanation -- 'Evamuktvā tato... Paramaṁ rūpamaiśvaram' -- In the previous verse, the Lord had stated, 'You cannot behold Me with your ordinary eyes, therefore I grant you divine vision, so that you may perceive My Ishwara-yoga.' Sanjaya here indicates this very fact with the word 'Evamuktvā'. In the fourth verse, Arjuna had addressed the Lord as 'Yogeshwara', and here Sanjaya refers to the Lord as 'Mahayogeshwara'. This implies that the Lord, in response to Arjuna's prayer, revealed an even more expansive form of His Vishwaroopa. Upon even a slight genuine inclination of a devotee towards the Lord, the Lord fulfills their desire with His boundless power. The form that Arjuna in the third verse referred to as 'Rūpamaiśvaram', Sanjaya here calls 'Paramaṁ rūpamaiśvaram'. This signifies that the Lord's Vishwaroopa is exceedingly wondrous. Lord Shri Krishna displayed such a unique, transcendental, and astonishing Vishwaroopa, which even bewildered the steadfast Arjuna, who was a master of his senses. By addressing Arjuna as 'Vyapetabhīḥ', the Lord also reassured him (11.49). Connection -- Sanjaya now proceeds to describe that supreme glorious form of the Lord in the following two verses.
