Bhagavad Gita Chapter 13, Verse 28

English Translation

He sees who sees the supreme Lord as existing eally in all beings, and as the Imperishable among the perishable.

Detailed Commentary

।।13.28।। Explanation — Samam Sarveshu Bhuteshu — The Paramatma is equally situated in all beings, be they stationary or moving (sthavara-jangama), Sattvic, Rajasic, or Tamasic. Whether small or large in form, long, broad, or of diverse kinds. In all of these, the Paramatma exists uniformly; He is not less or more in anyone. It was previously stated in this chapter that there is unity of Bhagavan with the Kshetrajna in all beings. Tishthantam — All beings pass through the states of creation (utpatti), sustenance (sthiti), and dissolution (pralaya), and move through high and low conditions. But the Paramatma abides in them with stability. Parameswaram — All beings consider themselves the lord (Ishvara) of something, but the Paramatma is the Supreme Lord of all. Vinashyatsvavinashyantam yah pashyati sa pashyati — He who sees the imperishable Paramatma in beings moving towards destruction, truly sees. One who recognizes oneself as one with the Paramatma amidst the destruction of the body, truly sees. It was stated earlier that the knowledge of Kshetra and Kshetrajna is true knowledge. Bhagavan states that one who sees the imperishable Paramatma equally in perishable beings, truly sees. Beings are born and perish, but the Paramatma remains equal in every state. In the previous shloka, it was explained that beings are born from the conjunction of Kshetra and Kshetrajna. The Kshetra is indeed mutable, but the Kshetrajna is immutable. In this shloka, Bhagavan instructs to experience one's unity with the imperishable Paramatma within perishable beings. Connection — Now Bhagavan explains the fruit of seeing the imperishable Paramatma in perishable beings.
